I’m gonna let mommy write this first blog post, because there’s too much to say and I’m too little to stay awake long enough for that. Next time maybe she won’t procrastinate so long before getting started…

Yes, yes, Maddy, I have finally succumbed to the peer pressure from all the mommy bloggers we know. These past three months have been full of very important activities, which I hope you’ll forgive me for failing to document extensively. Most of your time has been spent sleeping, eating and pooping (in that order), but here’s a quick recap of a few other things you’ve been up to lately:

Whipping your head back-and-forth, back-and forth (see video). This has resulted in a lovely bald spot/line on the back of your head, extending horizontally from one ear to the other. You’re so serious while you’re looking around and taking in all the “exciting” scenery in our house. I’m convinced that you’re observing some fascinating things, which I unfortunately don’t have the pleasure of being able to see.

Bald spot

My tongue gets funny white after I eat

Sticking out your tongue. This is one of your favorite activities, awake or asleep. Lately you’ve also enjoyed watching me stick out my tongue at you. I feel so mature when I’m wiggling my tongue around for you, but it’s worth it to see you smile up at me.

Blowing spit bubbles while you sleep. This is really cute until you wake up hours later with white gunk caked all around your mouth, but I don’t usually mind that since by then I’m just so relieved you’ve been sleeping for a long time.

Bubbly face

Half-way there

Rolling over. We decided you were brilliant when you rolled over from your tummy to your back for the first time at 4 weeks old. It was so nice of you to give me that special birthday present, and you’ve been keeping it up ever since. However, you do often get kind of mad in the process and make loud grunting and snorting noises until you kick yourself over or I help you.

Smiling a little more every day. Of course, my favorite thing in the world is to watch you smile. You’re still pretty selective about this activity and save your smiles for just a few random moments a day, but they’re starting to be less random I think (see tongue comment above).

Funny the next second

Very loud burping and farting. Oh yeah, you’re great at these bodily noises – they’re always entertaining and unique, especially when we have company visiting.

Grabbing my hair or shirt and holding on for dear life. You’ve got a firm grip little one! The other day you grabbed two chunks of my hair (one on each side of my head), and you just sat there clutching them and starting at me for a good five minutes.

Stretching awake again

Hard core stretching when you wake up. This is hilarious to watch (we got a little bit of it on video here). When you wake up you start fussing and crying a little bit to let us know you want someone to pick you up. As soon as we do you arch your back, and stretch out your arms and legs as far as they’ll go. Your cousin Eva apparently does it too, so I’m sure many babies do, but I still enjoy it every time.

Modeling for lots of photos. Just take a look at my Flickr photostream for proof, you’re a good sport about mom’s obsession with her digital camera…

Getting bigger and bigger. You started out tiny and you’re still cute and small, but you’re growing every day. Over the past 12 weeks you’ve gone from 5 lbs 12 oz down to 5 lbs 6 oz and now up to almost double that at 10 lbs 6 oz. I love you tiny, but I also can’t wait to see what kind of little girl you grow into.

In addition to these fascinating daily activities, you’ve already had quite a few special events in your life:

Visits from lots of out-of-towners, including your Grandma Castleton, Grandpa Busath, Aunt Lorna, Cousin Jude, Aunt Crystal, Cousin Addison, Nana Busath and great-grandma Busath. Also fun visits from dad’s friends Nancy and Nam, mom’s friend Nicole, and your great aunt and uncle Dan and Karen and their girls. You’re popular!

So relaxed with Grandma

I heart tennis

Cheering on dad during his tennis matches, including your first road trip to Fresno for his USTA league’s district playoffs.

Playdates with some neighborhood kids and our Yahoo PR friends – Sierra and Sydney.

Yahoo PR's girls

Horrible visits to the doctor where they were mean and gave you painful shots that made you scream at the top of your lungs.

A fun and exciting PRSA board meeting (now you know all you need to be a public relations expert when you grow up).

Too big, but too cute costume

Fun visit to Yahoo! for the company’s Halloween “Yaboo” celebration. You never made it into your chili pepper costume during the visit, but you got to meet lots of mom and dad’s friends and they all thought you were the cutest.

I’m sure there is lots more excitement in your future – including your first Christmas next week! Have fun telling everyone about your stories in this special blog, just for you.
