I’ve had SUCH a busy weekend. First of all, mommy and daddy have been trying to make me eat this yucky mushy cereal stuff. I was kind of okay with the new spoon-toy that came with the cereal because it was fun to chew on, but I’m just not sure yet if I’m interested in putting that mush in my mouth. I’m also not so fond of sitting in my bumbo chair anymore, cause I’m way too independent to be constrained in any way.
On Saturday we went to visit my buddy Sierra and her mom and dad (Nicole and Glen). We all got to go for a walk and look at lots of pretty trees (my favorite). I especially had fun when we went back to their cool new house, and I got to hang out with Sierra on her neat alphabet/numbers mat. She taught me some interesting moves that I’ve been working on ever since.
For example, I noticed that when Sierra was on her belly she could kind of scoot forward by sticking her butt up and bending her leg a bit. Today I was practicing that and I realized it was very helpful in going forward as well as backward (usually I just scoot backwards when I get bored of my current spot). I also like her swimming imitation, so I’ve been doing some of that today also. Mostly, I just love rolling all around constantly but I’m definitely thinking of starting that crawling thing I keep hearing about very soon.
All this activity is really wearing me out. Last night i was so tired that I slept for over 12 hours for the first time – mom and dad were soooo happy! I also took a 2 1/2 hour nap this morning just to really impress them. Lately I’ve been sleeping in past 8am most mornings, I guess that’s late or something. One day I even slept till 10:15am, but that was just cause I was so exhausted from getting up to party with mommy a few times in the middle of the night
Maddy turned 6 months old today, and we just can’t believe it. She has changed so much from those early weeks when all she did was sleep, sleep and sleep. We love to watch her watching things (today she was so fascinated by Dave ironing that she lost all interest in eating). She also seems to be picking up on cause-and-effect. I actually think she knows that when she hits certain toys they will make sounds or light up.
Her biggest recent learnings include:
- New noises. You have to see it to get how hilarious this is, so we’ve captured a lovely video for you below. Maddy just did this for the first time a few days ago, and now she likes to make these new noises at every opportunity – whether using the noise to emphasize her frustration during a whiny cry, or to emphasize her joy during a big laugh, or just to pass the time when she’s bored, like in this video.
- Napping in her crib. She just started to do that this week, and we’re sooo happy because we’ve been trying to get her out of her swing forever but she couldn’t sleep during the day unless she was being swung into hypnosis.
- Holding her own bottle. Dave just loves this, although she sometimes misses her target and aims it at her ear instead of her mouth.
Today she visited her day care with daddy for the first time. None of us are so sure about the day care thing, but hopefully we’ll all get used to it before Dave goes back to work and she has to start going every day.
I had a very exciting Easter weekend. Mommy and daddy took me to SoCal to visit their friends and go to a big tennis tournament – we’ve got lots of pictures of the trip here. First we flew to Orange County where mom’s college roommate Amy picked us up and took us to her house. Even though it was late, I decided to be wide awake so I could check out Amy’s house and get to know her and her husband Ryan. I finally went to bed around 1am and got up at 6:45am, ready for even more excitement.
Friday morning I met my new buddy, Nathan. He’s a really big boy (20 months old), and he let me play with lots of his toys and stuff. I especially liked it when he was brave enough to give me hugs, and it made me feel special when he was always asking about me. We both conked out that morning on the way to Palm Springs where we checked into a cool hotel and went to the pool. Mommy kept saying that I’d like swimming ’cause I love baths so much, but that was nothing like a bath! The water was way too cold.
That evening we all went out for a fun dinner where I got to know mom’s other college roommate, Joanne. She was funny and let me spit all over her while I laughed at her and her friend Melanie.
On Saturday, I was really excited because I got to go to my first professional tennis tournament, where I slept through Djokovich beating Nadal, but I stayed awake to watch Mardy Fish beat Roger Federer – so exciting! After the tennis, we went back to Nathan’s house where I got a bath and went to sleep.
The next day was Easter, and mommy let me dress up in some fun clothes – a pretty dress that Auntie Lisa gave me and a cool Easter Bunny outfit that Amy and Ryan gave me. Aren’t I cute?
After more playtime with Nathan, we had to go back home on a plane. I was kind of bummed to be leaving, so I whined until daddy bounced me on his knee for half the flight. Then when we were almost home, mommy showed me all these tiny things moving out the window way down below us. I was pretty entranced by that and I think I even saw our house from the sky. When we got home, daddy thoroughly disinfected me and everything of mine that had touched anything potentially dirty during the trip.
It was such an exciting weekend that I was exhausted when it was all over – last night I went to sleep faster than ever before, and stayed asleep for a whopping 10.5 hours.
