Today is the first day of the fourth quarter of Maddy’s first fiscal year (meaning that she turned 9 months old yesterday). So far, she’s pretty deeply in the red (from diapers, day care tuition, etc.), but Dave has confidence that she’ll become profitable when she wins her first Wimbledon championship at 16. To celebrate her 3/4 birthday, we crashed the eBay summer picnic at Gilroy Gardens with some of Dave’s friends, where Maddy rode her first ride.
She seemed to like the carousel and the “Strawberry Sundae”, but fell asleep before she got try out the “Garlic Twirl” or “Artichoke Dip” rides. After she woke up, she very much enjoyed her first taste of ice cream.
In addition to the fun of today, Maddy also got to hang out with my cousin Kendra and her friend Taylor this week. Then, after they left yesterday, she had a doctor’s appointment, where we found out that Maddy’s still tiny (shocker) at 16.25 lbs, 25.75 inches tall, and a 43 cm head.
She had to get a shot, but only cried a tiny bit and then was completely fine. Even when they pricked her finger to get some blood, she just observed with great interest – but no fear or pain that I could detect – as the blood dripped from her fingertip and they caught it in a vial. How did I end up with such a brave child?
I may have acted like I didn’t care about much the last time we hung out, but now I’m very impressed that you turned 4, Sage. I can’t wait to see you in a couple months, so I can learn all about what it’s like to be a big kid.
I’ve had quite a fun weekend, despite missing Sage’s birthday party. On Friday, I got to celebrate the summer solstice with mom’s work friends. Here I am showing off in front of everyone with mom’s sunglasses…
On Saturday, my mom’s grandparents came to visit from Oregon. They’re pretty cool, especially my Great Grandpa Bob. I love his bushy eyebrows and his crazy games, as you can see in this video:
For those of you who don’t religiously follow Maddy’s Flickr photostream, what’s wrong with you? Just kidding.
Here are a few recent highlights:
You may have caught of glimpse of our favorite facial expression in a recent video, but this picture captures it even better…
The video below gives you an idea of what Dave and I get to listen to every day on our way home from work. That is, until we reach highway 101 and Maddy promptly passes out for the rest of the ride.
And last, but not least, Maddy’s buddy Nathan was visiting from SoCal on Sunday (along with his parents, Amy & Ryan).
He gave her a very sweet kiss goodbye at the end of the visit, but then she rudely pushed him away and started playing hard to get as soon as I took out the camera.
