So, this weekend we’ve decided that Maddy has finally turned into the master of sleep. However, she has also turned into the monster of mealtime and won’t complete a meal without swatting at every spoonful, getting food all over the place, and then smearing it in her hair, eyes and ears. As you can imagine, her dad just LOVES it when she does that.
Anyways, back to the good stuff – I’m not sharing this to brag or annoy all the other moms out there, but because I feel the need to document this bizarre, amazing thing about my daughter before she moves onto what I’m sure will be less pleasant sleep habits.
We thought we were doomed after we came back from a few weekends of family reunions and Maddy seemed to be fighting sleep with all her might. However, after just 1 difficult night of the evil letting her “cry it out” technique, she is (for now) sleeping easily and peacefully for us. Even if she’s not quite ready to doze off, she’ll let us put her down in the crib with a hug and a kiss and leave the room, then she’ll quietly play in there for up to 30-40 minutes before she falls asleep on her own. We think it’s a miracle.
Sadly, she doesn’t sleep so easily at daycare. Poor Susette almost always has trouble getting her to take her naps and to stay asleep for more than 40 minutes. However, on the weekends Maddy is such an angel. She goes to bed easily when we put her down after dinner, a bath, a book and some milk at around 8pm.
Yesterday morning she woke up at 6am, which we worried was a bad sign because that’s very early for her (usually she wakes up between 7:30-8:30am). But then she went back down for a nap at around 9am, slept for 2+ hours, took a 3-hour nap in the afternoon, and was ready for bed at her usual time. This morning, she slept in until almost 9am, and then went down for a 3.5 hour nap – her longest ever, I think – at around 11:30. We skipped the 2nd nap and put her to bed at 7pm – the earliest we’ve gotten her down so far – and from the looks of it, she’s passed out for the night.
Maybe it’s all her walking (she doesn’t crawl anymore), and the crazy monster impersonations she does now. I don’t care what it is, I just hope this trend continues…
P.S. Maddy slept 13+ hours on Sunday night after I wrote this post, and was not happy when we had to wake her up at 9am to go to daycare. Should I be worried???
