Today I’m 21 months old, which means that in only 3 more months my terrible twos phase will be justified (although mommy says I’ve gotten a little better). We did some measurements to see how I’m growing this morning, so here’s the latest.
I’m getting tall(ish)! I’m 33 1/2 inches long, which is in the 50-75th percentile for girls my age. Maybe that explains why I so easily get out of my crib these days. Daddy put up this crib tent thing to try and keep me in there last night, but I’m not sure I like it.
I’m getting a little fatter. I’m 23 pounds and 5 ounces, which is in the 10-25th percentile. Not bad considering how much I run around and burn off calories these days.
Those of you who follow my every development will know that this is good steady progress, right exactly on that curve they check out at the doctor’s office: from 1 year to 18-months, etc.
Time for my nap now, before we go to Half Moon Bay beach this afternoon to escape the San Jose heat!
Despite the fact that Maddy wears me out much faster (usually by 10am each day) than Yahoo! (even working 50+ hours a week), I’ve been very much enjoying getting some extra time with her. I started my maternity leave last week and am trying to make the most of every moment I have over the next ~10 days before my attention is suddenly diverted to newborn care 24×7.
Today, we went to Coyote Point Museum, which we both loved. Maddy got to see planes up close flying over the water (she REALLY loves planes), and lots of animals. She was more fascinated by the waterfall in the aviary than by the birds, and she really really enjoyed watching the Otter swim around. She was a little confused between the live animal “otter” and “Otto,” the Syracuse Orange mascot, whom we read a lot about in Maddy’s favorite book.
Also, this afternoon we went to visit some of my former colleagues at Informatica, where Maddy became best of friends with Jeremy. She especially liked his explanation of why the boats in the dock were not moving (because they were taking naps), and was very sad when it was time to go. Guess she doesn’t get to see much of the Bay down here in San Jose. She spent the rest of the day explaining to Dave and I that “water – boats – night night – sleep!” about 500 times (I’m not exaggerating).
Earlier this week, we spent some time at the playground. It was great until Maddy decided it would be hilarious to run back-and-forth from one dangerous opening in the play structure to the other so I would have to run around it in circles to be there in case she fell. She kept taunting me and laughing hysterically when I’d catch up with her all out of breath. Give the pregnant lady a break!
Up next week (hopefully): beach time and more animals/outdoor time!
I have the best daddy in the whole world, and we’ve had such a great second year together so far:
Daddy lets me climb all over him even when he’s trying to take a nap.
He lets me eat his chips and sometimes drink his Thai iced teas.
He lets me mess up the house with all my toys, even though clutter is one of his biggest “pet peeves” (whatever that means).
He gives me really great baths every night so I’m nice and clean, and he even changes my poopie diapers from time-to-time.
When I’m scared of the dark at night or just don’t want to take a nap during the day, mommy leaves me crying in my crib but daddy comes in and lays down on the floor next to me so I have company.
Mommy’s been really tired lately but daddy makes up for it by giving me lots and lots of attention.
